What Day is it Again?

To anyone who still reads this, sorry for the lack of updates! I know my last post promised more upkeep, but, yeah, I fail. I’d like to say, “I’ve just been sooooo busy,” but I haven’t. You know, the funny thing about summer vacation is that it begins to drive you nuts after a while. The first week of break you’re like, “Yes! I have so much free time! I’m gonna do EVERYTHING!” but by the second or third week you’re sitting on the couch watching sitcom reruns, finishing up a bag of potato chips that you started 20 minutes ago and you look down at your lazy, pathetic self and you think, “Ohmigod. I have too much free time.”

Okay. I didn’t make that realization while watching TV and eating chips, but I do feel like my life will waste away for three months if I don’t get out of this idle state soon. So yesterday I submitted an application to volunteer at the Botanical Conservatory. What the eff is that, you say? It is, essentially, the city garden/live plant museum. I’m really hoping they have some volunteering positions open, but if not, that’s okay. Plenty of other places to work around town!

Speaking of work, when I mention that I’d like to volunteer this summer, people often respond with, “Why don’t you get a job?” Which I don’t really understand. What’s wrong with wanting to contribute to the community?! A part-time job is certainly an option for me, but I don’t really want it for several reasons:

  1. With my age and lack of work experience, most of the jobs I’m eligible for are in food service and I’ve heard way too many horror stories about fast food places to want to work in one.
  2. More flexibility and less commitment. As a volunteer, I’d just be extra help, not necessarily a vital link on the chain, so I don’t have to put in that many hours a week to be involved.
  3. Finally, I’m doing this for the work experience not for the money. I really just want to be productive this summer. I’ll leave the jobs for the people who need them.

So what have I been doing in my free time up to now? In all honestly: NOTHING. Aside from hanging out with Jamie every now and then, I’ve just been lounging around the house surfing the internet or playing video games. (If you’re into MMORPGs, check out Sword of the New World! It’s fun and it’s free!)

Anyway, I can’t wait to get started with working and summer classes. I need to find a better way to pass the time. All this free time is killing me!

On a completely irrelevant note, I designed a new WordPress theme and though it was nice, but it wasn’t the right look I wanted for this site. Hopefully I’ll have a new design made soon!

Bye for now!

I know the feeling! I am done Wednesday and haven’t had classes for a week, and it is already weird sleeping in and not really having a lot to do. I like it, but then I get bored and wonder what the hell I should do!

Have fun volunteering, I’ve had a job for a couple years, so I’m still working. I like having the money, and it really isn’t a bad job at all.

Oh I know how you feel, haha. xD Volunteering is not bad, I had thoughts of it as well but I already applied for a job. Might do it as well if I have free time xD

But really, being lazy for a while can be fun too, right? XD As long you try to be active on other days :P

I’m totally like you for the summer. I lack work experience somewhat but I still prefer to volunteer. I’ve contributed many hours to my community especially during the summer at the hospital. The botanical gardens sounds fun – but i find volunteer work pretty fulfilling no matter what you do. I tend to read to kids in the summertime.

Summer already for you? pah, still in school for me! Just two weeks left!
