Thoughts on Childhood, Part II
Hey there!
Before I dig into the good stuff, here are a couple of updates on the oh-so-exciting life of Jackie! -end sarcasm- Yesterday I had my “interview” with the volunteer coordinator at the Botanical Conservatory and I’ve got training scheduled for the next couple weeks as a receptionist and a gift shop clerk! Also, on Monday, my summer class for Paralegal Studies begins! I’m so excited to get started with both!
Anyway, Annika’s post about barcode scanners made me think of those crazy careers you always wanted to have when you were a kid. In my case, I told my parents/relatives/teachers that I wanted to be an astronomer when I grew up. Though that was partially true, I felt my true calling, my absolutely perfect career, would be…
A cashier.
Yep! When I was a kid, I wanted to be a grocery store cashier. But could you blame me? From a kid’s perspective, cashiers have the most amazing job because they get to handle the coolest colorful, shiny, button-y, noise-making machine ever: the cash register. Tap, tap, tap. Beep. Beep. Whhhhirrrrrr. Ka-ching! It’s pretty much an overwhelmingly irresistible orchestral sound to a child’s ear. Why do you think they make toy versions of them?
And then there was the conveyor belt. When I was young, I just relished putting the groceries on the belt just for the pure satisfaction of watching my big red box of Froot Loops cereal glide three feet forward. So simple, yet so magical. And that wasn’t even the best part. The conveyor belt was nothing compared to…
The barcode scanner. Coolest, damn thing ever invented. You know what I’m talking about. Admit it. Stores may claim that they have self-checkouts for speed and convenience, but we all know they are there so you can fulfill your youthful desire to scan barcodes.
Or maybe it’s just me.
Ahem.
So! What jobs did you want to have when you were a kid?
Also, I’d like to plug my newest blog buddy: Chidora! Go check out her new blog! :D

Woah, really? I didn’t knew that you wanted a job like that. Though I can understand your thoughts of it when you were little. I actually have no clue what I wanted to become. Guess I wasn’t really thinking about it.
I think somewhere I still secretly wanted to be famous by singing when I was little. I wasn’t so much concerned with what I wanted. Even now I’m not completely 100% sure of it.
